LBX: Little Battlers eXperience - Nintendo 3DS Standard Edition Game | Action RPG Battle Robots Adventure | Perfect for Kids & Teens Gaming on the Go

I picked up LBX when I had my wisdom teeth extracted and put ~15 hours of play time into it. It's a fun little experience, that appears to offer a great deal of depth but even a casual play through reveals that promise to be a rather shallow set of mechanics.LBX is a 3rd person RPG/arena battler focused around customizable action figures. It follows a tried and true premise of taking quests to earn money to buy new items and become more powerful. At first it seemed to provide a lot of depth of customization by providing a large number of armor sets each with their own strengths and weaknesses allowing you to combine different pieces for your Head, Torso, each Arm, and Legs but you quickly find out ultimately the story-line armor sets are all far superior to the sets you can purchase. Even as the game gradually provides you with new options it's a disappoint experience when you compare them only to find your basic armor is still better.A large part of what drives this disappointment is a battle system that strongly emphasizes planning ahead and customizing your LBX before each battle based on what damage and weaknesses your opponent's LBX is using, but even ~50% into the game I was finding I never had to think about using armor strong against their damage, or picking a weapon that would counter their armor. To put it simple no strategy was necessary.The shallow strategy component could be overlooked if the rest of the game was solid, but I found the combat to feel sluggish resulting in easy battles that felt like they took longer than they needed to. There's no attack canceling so the combat never really flows, and the movement is unwieldy; jumping never felt accurate, usually meaning you'd fall off a cliff. Yet, the game wasn't paced for deliberate, strategic combat, it wanted to be a rapid action brawler. When the battles were challenging the combat felt really good as it gave you time to think about and respond to incoming enemies (most of the time).Finally, the overall quest interface didn't feel like it wanted you to complete quests in the first place. You could only take one at a time and while they were usually rather easy at times it wasn't clear where you were actually supposed to go to complete a quest. Fortunately, but the time it get to that point rewards were usually just cards, and that system... well, it forced you into a lot of really easy battles which felt more tedious than fun.Overall, it's hard to recommend this game for anyone familiar with RPGs and action brawlers. A game like Tales or Xenoblade would better serve those players. Of course, this is a welcome addition to the handheld market, so players looking for a casual, on-the-go experience will definitely find a fun, if shallow and, at times, tedious experience.Pros: - A welcome entry to a barren handheld brawler market - Easy to spend 15 minutes or 2 hours playing - A well paced story with easy to pick up mechanics - Pleasing use of the 3D capabilities of the systemCons: - A disappointingly shallow customization system - A sluggish combat system that punishes skill - A hard to use quest system - Poor end-game contentThis child friendly robot game makes you feel like a kid. It has the best graphics on 3ds and it was a lot harder than the most recent Pokémon game SM. It has a nice child friendly story, and the game has a ton of content for a 12 dollar 3ds game. 50 plus hours. The biggest problem is the soundtrack is pretty lackluster, and the sidequests are a bit boring at times. People say it is an easy game but, there are some difficulty spikes with a learning curve on par with Pokémon BW.5 days after I got the game I have about 30 hours play time on this game when I write this review.It's a third person action rpg with a pretty good story. I'm on episode 6 but a lot of features have yet to unlock. Everything is customizable from the combination of various parts to modifies the parts themselves. Its honestly very fun. the combat sytem isnt deep but its satisfying and there are so many armor options once you get them allReviews state some positives and some negatives, but I think it's just solid all the way through. If you're familiar with Custom Robo, metabots, or the gundam anime involving the toys then you'll get what this game is all about. Yes the fighting is short and once you do one battle you've pretty much done them all, but thats where the fun is. It has cutscenes hidden throughout the game with voice acting. There's multiple allies, enemies, robots, armors/weapons, experience stats, etc to keep you entertained. There is an online multiplayer but I have not tested those waters myself.The game is really fun. Imagine pokemon but with little pocket robots that fight instead.This game is so much fun, I have thoroughly enjoyed playing it so far. It is a little grind-y when you want to level up or make money, but for me it is always an enjoyable grind. The AI doesn't seem to be very tough right now, and once I got a good enough LBX using passwords, I haven't lost a match in 2-3 chapters! This game reminds me of Custom Robo Arena with the robots and the customization, which also a very good game. Looking forward to continuing the game, the customization and the different variations of weapons lead to a gradual learning curve, and even though I read bad reviews about the storyline, I'm actually enjoying it, it is written well enough.As an 8 dollar 3DS game, this is beyond worth the money. The gameplay is fun, albeit a little limited but it's a worthy purchase. You can customize your LBXs parts and weapons and battle with teams of 3, 2 and compete in singles matches. I have yet to face someone locally or on the internet but I'm sure it's as fun as the game! The story is nice, nothing fancy. There are cutscenes with actual anime playing, which I appreciate personally. I highly recommend this game for kids and adults alike!
